The reflectors in the 70W and 150W versions have a bulb socket that mounts on the outside of the reflector. It's something they are looking to correct in the near future, but in the meantime it casts a shadow into the tank directly underneath the bulb.

At that price, the ballast will cost you almost that much........ So even if the bulb is junk, you could not put together a working 150 for less than that.

Yeah but the ballast could be junk too. Think about JEBO ballasts. I've seen their T5s in action and they are not that good. I haven't seen the MHs but, I'm sure that quality is equal to Jebo though.

The new lights have brand new electronic ballasts. The old ones were magnetic, and still worked well. The new ones will just be smaller and quieter.

The issue cparka23 brought up can be fixed pretty easily. A small modification to the reflector puts the bracket behind it, elliminating the black line. The bulbs are not the best quality, but they get the job done in a pinch. For under $200 you can set one of those up with a Phoenix 14K and have a killer light.
