Does anyone know why my fish wouldn’t be growing? I do weekly water changes and feed every day, my tank has more than enough space and it is not over stocked. It is a freshwater fish but saltwater people might have an answer too. It is a fire mouth cichlid and they are supposed to grow 1 inch in 6-8 months. Mine has grown 1/8 of an inch in 8 months. He is acting normal I don’t think anything is wrong with him my best guess is he will just be a smaller fish. What is your opinion? Thanks

Water parameters?

quality of food?

variety of food?

how big is your tank?

livestock?
Ammonia 0 ppm nitrite 0 ppm nitrate 0-5 ppm

quality of food is the best I can find mostly “name brands”

variety of foods I feed pellets krill mysis and bloodworms

40 gallon tank

tank mates are two zebra loaches and a bristle nose pleco so only four fish in the tank all ranked for a 30 gallon tank

Is your fish healthy and happy? Do you enjoy watching him swim around? If so, who cares how fast he grows? Do your best to provide him the best home you possibly can and let nature handle the rest.

This is saltwater but many people have Tangs that they’ve kept for 10+ years that never get to the listed maximum Wild sizes, but are otherwise perfectly happy and healthy. There’s a member with a 30-year old pair of Fire Clownfish that he says are maybe 3.5” despite the listed maximum size of 5-5.5”.

If the tallest person is 6’5 but you’re 5’9, you’re still perfectly normal.
