Coral Hawkfish, Pixy Hawkfish / Cirrhitichthys oxycephalus

SCIENTIFIC NAME - Cirrhitichthys oxycephalus

COMMON NAME - Coral Hawkfish (Pixy Hawkfish)

SIZE - 3.3" (8.5 cm)

MIN. AQUARIUM SIZE - 20 US Gal. (76 L)

FOODS AND FEEDING - Meaty marine fare for carnivores, crustacean flesh, Mysid shrimp, fresh / live and frozen preparations. Feed Daily.

REEF COMPATIBILITY - May feed on smaller delicate shrimp, small fish, otherwise, excellent.

CAPTIVE CARE - The Hawkfish acclimates well to captivity, this is an aggressive Hawkfish that should not be housed with smaller less aggressive species, (targets of preference are small Dottybacks, Grammas, pygmy Angelfishes, small Butterflyfishes, sand Perches, Gobies, Dartfishes), should be the last fish added. Keep only one per tank.

I have one of these and very personably fish! He comes to greet me when I come in the room and keeps an eye on me while I sit at computer next to his tank! The problem is he has only been with one other clown for last month and before that had another clown and a damsel. They all got along fine. Last night I purchased a small clown fish and he chased him about a few times! Maybe just because he was new but scares me because maybe if it wasnt a clown fish that he is used to he would attack! I also want to add some peppermint shrimp (aptasia problem) but scared he may eat them.

First off this may be the longest between two posts in a thread at over 9 years! Second, if you add a peppermint make sure to do it at night after fish go to sleep so it has the best chance to find a home.

HAHA! Well, I wasnt sure what type of hawk I had so I did an image search which took me to this post I started the comment saying what a great fish he is (nothing like my flame hawk) but went on to mention the peppermint! I also left a separate post about this aptasia problem and hawk fish with peppermint shrimp!

Thanks for your advice, makes total sense! The more I think about it I may just try this stuff called franks x or something like that but that way I wont have to worry so much about the fish eating the shrimp and all. I read its a mix of Kalk and glue and read real good reviews about it!
