Fish only 210 gallon

Actually the wet/dry filters system is quite efficient and functional for a fish only system. High oxygen levels and quick adaptation to fluctuations in population density make this filter an excellent choice for fish only systems. I would add a mechanical filter followed by a U.V. in the 120,000 micro watt kill range and you would have a great fish holding system that would offer protection from many common marine fish disease problems. I have used this type of filter for fish holding systems in large retail stores with great success over the years.
Just a thought.
Wow. Thanks for the reply. My neck jerk reaction was to pull the bio balls. The primary goal of this system is to keep fish (not corals) healthy with as little maintenance as possible (minimal water changes).

Would adding an external skimmer or ats help with this goal? I thought a ats might keep algae out of the display.

Or is the current system (bio balls and uv) sufficient for keeping fish healthy with minimal water changes?

An external skimmer is a good choice. I would mount it in away that would allow the skimmer to drain to the sump in case of an over flow. Kind of a small tank that might drain to the sump if you would. You might be able to mount one inside the tank like a Tunze if you have the space. The Tunze is a great skimmer for both applications. Automatic top off is always a good idea. You could watch the evaporation for a week or two and see how many gallons you need for the top off. Again the Tunze is a great option and comes with it's own 5 gallon bucket on one of the systems.

Good luck and I think the Bio balls work great. I still have a large box of new ones from back in the day when I manufactured Wet/Dry filters for reef and fish tanks.

What tunze skimmer can be run external?

I was considering the RO 200 ext

Tunze can be run in a small external sump like a 5 or 10 gallon glass tank. It just has to be deep enough to meet the water column requirements. You can of course run an internal Tunze inside the tank. They are compact and very efficient.

Would an emperor angel be a good fit?

How about a Naso tang?

Looking to add a few more big fish if possible.

Well the tank is cycling now.

Thinking of starting with a few smaller fish just for variety and then start adding the bigger ones. Should angels or tangs be added first?

You should give a shout out to @4FordFamily and see what they suggest to prevent aggression in your tank mates. When you introduce fish can affect aggression among various fish.

Current ideas for stocking include

2 maroon clowns

1 yellow tang

1 blue hippo tang

1 porcine puffer

1 Melanarius wrasse

1 diamond goby

1 dwarf angel

1 lawnmower blenny

1 fairy wrasse

1 coris wrasse

2 fire fish

1 long nose hawk fish

The idea being a low maintenance fowlr system that could transition to a softie tank down the road. Not sure if this would be overstocked. I'd rather be under stocked.

Owners seem most keen on clown fish, blue hippo tang and a puffer.
Love the porcupine puffer! How about a small lion (fuzzy dwarf), I love bristletooth tangs like a kole or tomini. Maybe a snowflake eel?

I'll be adding a Kole or tomini for sure, if just as part of cuc.

A lion sounds great.

I don't think an eel will work since the tank will be feed primarily with auto feeders.

See?....That's what I'm talking about ..ideas, ideas, i love the style of that tank and I'm sure that it's going to be gorgeous after the job it's done, as you say before I believe it's a good idea to change the old system with a skimmer, lot of people don't realized the benefits of having a skimmer, my tank has a dramatic change when i butt the skimmer on it, i keep it simple but with the most important things on it.

Yeah. Everyone on R2R is so helpful. We really have a great community.

I'll be getting a skimmer down the road. Probably set it up after the tank gets a few fish in it.

I wonder what did I try to say with the *** there in my posting...hope it's not what i think
Sorry MR moderator if a word that it wasn't went , wasn't intentionally.

So the cycle is nearing its end. I am trying to finalize a stocking list. I was thinking...

A pair of Maroon Clowns
Blue Hippo Tang
Yellow Tang
Naso Tang
Emperor angel
Porcine puffer

Is this fully stocked?

I was also considering a blue throat trigger as well.

I'd say so. Even without the trigger.
