Hey fellow Reefers...i noticed a few spots of my sailfin and also the cleaner wrasse is allowes to pick at the various legions on the fish. I am not sure what this is, but can anyone identify it and how to I cure it? Also, can someone identify what type of red algea this is...it only grows in 3 areas of the tank.

Additionally, are you running carbon in your tank? What are you feeding the fish?

HLLE's been linked to running carbon in the system, as well as nutritional deficiencies.

@jphilip813 ~ if you take a turkey baster or something similar at blow at the red algae, does it blow away in ribbons? But only to return? Is it silky in consistency? Ever have bubbles coming out?

I see both cyano bacteria and in the saikfin, hlleand vitamin deficiency.
For cyano ......
Are you using tap water from faucet or RO water? Check your phosphate level and TDS.
ChemiClean is a great defense against cyano but locate the cause first which is the water or even over feeding
On the tang, temporarily remove carbon which it could be reacting to and boost its diet. At minimum, feed:
Nori seaweed basted with garlic extract
Formula 2 flake and frozen
Mysis shrimp
Small plankton
LRS herbivore diet

ADD SELCON VITAMINS AND GARLIC EXTRACT TO THE FOODS EACH 2x week alternating each supplement
Maintain good water quality Also

The sailfin has classic HLLE. There have been only two studies run on this malady (full disclosure - one was mine) and carbon was the smoking gun. All of the other "causes" stem from misinformation and one flawed study by George Blasiola back in the 1980's. It is NOT caused by stray voltage or lack of vitamin C. Changing the diet can't hurt, but also does not cure it. Even removing carbon won't help because the carbon dust is still in the tank, and in some cases, the lesions are just too deep to heal.
