I am still new to reefing and just cycled my 50g with two clowns. I planned to have soft corals but wondered what type of fish I should add. Any recommendations?

A yellow coris wrasse if you have sand as they sleep in it. Active and good pest eater.

Pygmy or flameback angel. Stay smaller but add last due to aggression. May pick at some corals but generally ok.

Tailspot blenny, lots of personality and picks at algae. Hangs out on rocks.

Pistol shrimp and shrimp goby or jawfish (need a lid) - interesting behaviors and will utilize bottom half of the tank.

Neon goby - active, bold, will sit on your hand

Royal gramma, beautiful colors, nice purple splash

Yellow clown goby - picks at SPS but fine with other corals. Cute and will sit on your leather corals all cozy.

This list of fish hangs out in different areas and serves different roles. Different body shapes. This limits aggression. They should get along well while adding a lot of activity.

Some of the fish are small (which helps keep bioload reasonable) but they are not shy fish and have fun personalities.

But pretty much everything I would say.
I’ll add:
Mandarin or ruby dragonet - needs lots of live food, once the tank is well established it will do well if you get a captive bred
Firefish - very peaceful and elegant
Filefish - Cool oddball type, may pick at corals
Hawkfish - cool oddball but may eat small inverts

Here’s my list
Lawnmower blenny or tail spot blenny
Yellow tang ( price are high on this one)
Six line wrasse or bigger version malenruss wrasse ( this one you need a sand bed)
Two clowns

Personally I’d pass on the tang. For proper grazing room they need at least a 4 foot tank, ideally bigger. Minimum would be 75-90.

Thank you, everyone, for the suggestions. This is crew that I finally got :)
Everyone is active and hungry all the time.

2 Clowns (One attacks me when I work in the tank)
1 Diamont Gobby (This fish is so funny to watch digging around)
1 Yellow Coris Wrasse (Really moving around a lot)
1 Clown Goby (Seems to be Grandpa in the tank, only fast-moving during feeding time)
1 Flame Angel (Loves to swim through openings in the rocks)
1 Tailspotted Blenny (In the beginning a little shy, now swimming)
1 Royal Gramma (Hiding each night)
1 Cleaner Shrimp (New guy on the block)
CUC
