After almost 2 years in the hobby, I’m at a turning point. I’m dealing with a bout of both velvet and flukes (one in DT, one in QT - don’t ask) which has wiped out most of my fish. After the loss of one in particular, that I really tried my best for, I’m going to do one of 2 things: let the surviving fish (hopefully some will get through this!) live out their lives and then shut it down. Or add just a few hardy species. Nothing that must have live pods or any other special requirements. My current livestock are:
- coral beauty
- yellowtale damsel
- watchman goby
- pistol shrimp
- royal gramma (doesn’t look like he’s gonna make it)
- cleaner shrimp
- 5 hermit crabs
- 2 turbo snails
- 1 astrea snail
Maybe captive bred fish? Clowns?
No corals but hoping to add just a few beginner ones if I ever get these parasites in check!
TIA

I would add anything until ur fish are done going through velvet and flukes and you didnt give tank size

55 gallon. Funny. Before the latest outbreak, we were actually considering an upgrade. Now I’m not so sure I’m cut out for this hobby.

I’m definitely not adding ANYTHING for now. But, I’d like to research the hell out of any potential additions well in advance. DT going fallow for 76 days as of a week ago so no plans to add anything until that’s done and the fish currently in treatment have (hopefully) recovered.

Not a single wrasse on that list, I would definitely get one for it (ie fairy wrasse, flasher wrasse, halichoeres wrasse)

+1 a wrasse would be a great addition. Clowns are also a great idea. I can hardly imagine having a tank with no clowns. But yes, please address the parasite issue first.
