Sorry for long post...
In hobby just going on 2 years now. Current is a 13.5g aio that Ive upgraded. Lots of us and downs and lots of help in these threads.

I'm upgrading to a bigger aquarium lol, just like so many said would happen. Decided to check out local listings. Ad for a sad looking 5g went up. I was going to ignore it but in pics saw the poor little clownfish up in the corner and I could not stop myself. I offered well under what was asked and he accepted due to not having the time to care for it.

It made me really sad. Says tank is 5 months old.

I was really not ready to jump into this yet. I planned to take my time with the new build because I have a 6 month old clown who I adore. Mine was pretty small when I got it but she's become a lovable little terror. I do not have a nem. A small Duncan is current love object of choice. There will be a nem in the new tank -minumum 60 gallons. My 13.5 is at max with 1 clown, 1 firefish, 1 tailspot, and 1 fireshrimp and growing coral frags. I was planning on getting my clown a mate - knowing all about getting a significantly smaller clown, etc. But I am committed to rescuing this fish tomorrow. Tonight I ordered an isolation box it's about 10" x 4" x 5".

The clown in need of rescue is same color and 1 month younger. Looks smaller too maybe but not sure. They are both juveniles.

So here are my options and wondering what you all think is the best way to go. First, I'm going to do a good clean and water change/test, etc. I need to leave the clown for at least a few days to be sure it's healthy and just neglected. After I feel it is safe,

1. I can just leave it in the 5g. I plan to have my tank picked out, Aquascaped, and cycled by end of Dec. If I care for it, it should be OK for a few months, right? It will make me feel sorry for it though.

2. i can acclimate and place new clown in isolation box, max 2-3 days. Oh my little aquarium will be crowded. I will always have the 5 g to fall back on.

I guess I'm wondering from those with more experience is what is the best chance that I can give all my animals? Is it better just to wait and introduce the clowns in a few months? Or should I not risk waiting. I know if one turns female it's over. I don't think either of them are more than a year old though.

Thanks so much!

I would utilize the 5g as a mini quarantine and keep them in a formalin solution orvruby rally pro for 21-30 days to assure they’re bringing nothing foreign into display tank
Acclimate thereafter into new tank

Thank you. Does anyone have any tips on introducing the clowns?

I also just learned he has a small bta in there. He says it's not doing well. I may attempt to diy my 14000 evo 13.5 light bar in place of the 11000 stock light on this 5 gallon.

I think I'm going to do as suggested and just really clean and monitor the 5 gallon as is for awhile before attempting to combine.

Got them home. Tank was filthy. The clown is very small so I am going to leave him where he is for now. I think everything turned out great. Thanks for your reply
