I've noticed that finished fish rooms are either furnished household rooms or something sterile with white walls and wire rack shelving.

Is there an ideal color or wall finish when lighting a marine tank?

Are there finishes, paints, or surfaces to avoid utilizing?

I will be painting the walls behind some tanks in my basement soon and was favoring light colors as it gets little sunlight.

I have not heard that question asked before on color.

I would suggest a Simi gloss for the finish.

If I had no budget I would look for what more large scale setups use like aquariums. Maybe check some behind the scenes YouTube videos?

I probably would make sure there was plenty of drainage on the flooring as well as a non slip industrial floor; probably those rubber circle ones; add a layer of those mats they use in restaurant kitchens and then either tile the walls or use some sort of moisture resistant Sheetrock.

These are by no means within my finances but it doesn’t hurt to aim high... i imagine my fish room completely splashproof and easy to hose down any salt creep that builds up over the system. All unsealed controllers and electrical equipment would be located outside the fishroom.

In the real world I would use an exterior paint that has a gloss to facilitate wipedowns or a water resistant wall treatment. You can get real fancy with instant backsplash wall paper like these https://www.remodelista.com/posts/h...ign-company-kitchen-walls-in-the-netherlands/

I have a lot of stage theater experience....

If you want the focus to be on the tank and colors pop....and this is a dedicated room.......you cant beat Flat Black highlighted with contemporary bright accessories

3 of my walls are linen grey with the 4th being Japanese seaweed. I went with satin finish only because I thought it would help prevent glare on my computer monitor. My wife thought my color choices were crazy because I struggle with colors. She shakes her head sometimes if I pick the clothes out for the kids but even she thinks it looks good.

Here is the room I'm building. Did not even think to paint.

Light grey walls with blue epoxy floor for a fish/sump room.

For the viewing room, something textured with darker colors to contrast the smooth glass front and brightly lit tank. I like other object in the room like floor-standing speakers and maybe a classic arcade game and some simple but stylish furniture.
