I am currently setting up a fish room in our unfinished basement. (the wife isn't too happy about the size quite yet) Anywho I was wondering if there are people here who have them and are glad they incorporated this or that for their fish rooms. I'd like to start a thread here with what everyone likes, dislikes, would have done different, or would have added to their fish room! Thank you! Also Pictures of fishrooms are always awesome! I love the behind the scenes of the tank.:haha:

Well my garage is my fish room LOL. My DT is in my house. I like having the guts of the sytem away from the DT. Plus I have almost infinative space to add onto the system. I'm still in the bulding phase as I have not done anything to my large system but hooked up the sump to the DT. That has been running for a couple months now. I need to get off my butt and finish this build LOL.

Table to frag on, shelves, cabnet to hide things, sink and running water and twice as much room as you think you need. Piles of ground fault circut plugins with two seperate feeds so if one side goes down while your away only half of your system will shut down. ect ect ect.

JR,

Its a good idea to have the GFCI plugins higher off the ground than in average rooms. I have a tile saw and a fan or two in my fish room along with a table for fragging. It would be nice to have a wall mounted board to put all the hardware, like ballasts and timers on. I also have some wire shelving for misc. boxes that I keep for shipping stuff among other things. It's a good idea to have some type of water resistant flooring too. It will most likely get wet.

Good luck!

I'm in Florida and have a 280 in wall tank. Half of the tank (it's 36" wide) is the the living room and the other half goes into my fish room. The fish room inside dimensions are 5'x15'. This houses all my equipment. I don't have a dehumidifier or a chiller but I installed and in wall air conditioner. It works great and the tank temperature ranges from 78 to 81 degrees.

I would also recommend a tile floor. We used linoleum which I regret. Some of it has peeled up from the saltwater that invariably gets on it.

Things I have in the works for my fish room;

Running water and a nice sink

Work table for fragging, cleaning pumps, etc.

Floor drain if possible

Lots of outlets. I have the plans for my fishroom layed out with outlets every 6-8 feet about 48" above the floor.

A run of pipe that's split off of the return pump which runs around at least two walls of the room with T's that are capped off. This will allow for easy system expansion in the future.

Small shelf just below the ceiling to keep the ballasts out of the way.

Wire duct around the room just higher than the outlets to keep the wires tidy.

Exhaust fan and dehumidifier

Awesome Ideas everyone keep them coming. My fish room actually shares the sump pump. God forbid I ever need to use it though! Here is a pic of my filtration and frag tank setup as of now.

Sump table is to left and Frag tank table is right in front on that pic. I did plan on running a nice combo of plugins along the wall! I love all the ideas though so keep them rolling....Couple of pics would be awesome too!

Everybody has covered pretty much all the necessities. I think the thing I like the most about my fish room is having the sink and a table to work off of. It's great not to have to run upstairs every time I need to rinse something out or wash up.

Any other fishroom must haves? Or pictures of them? I love the behind the scenes as much as the tank itself! Thought I would just bump this up seeing how R2R has grown over the last few months.

my fish room "must have" is a stainless dog bathing sink! i don't know how i lived without it! it's got an attached hose/spray nozzle that makes maintenance tasks a breeze.

Shelves to hold supplies

Dedicated Sink, I installed two new deep sinks
one for household use and one fish only use.

Paper towels (lots of them)

Hand towells & Wash cloths
(I have my own set for fish room only use)

Table (I still need to add one to my room)

RO/DI Unit

Mixing barrel for Saltwater (rubbermaid trashcan)

Fan (when the skimmer goo is gagging you).

I want a Dog Sink..... For my Dog

That is slick

That Dog sink is AWESOME! I am in the process of getting things are organized. I am definately adding a Utility Sink. Shelving will be coming as well. I also have a bunch of nice white towels that are strictly fish room only. Never thought of adding the paper towels! I am also currently building a "rack" system to house my 2 55 gallon drums. One for RO/DI water and the other for the Saltwater. This way Its the turn of a few valves and the water change is done and the new saltwater is being filled with Fresh RO/DI for a new batch!!!

Keep the ideas coming. Like I said I think the Fishrooms are awesome!
