I'm getting ready to remodel the house. We have a small garage that used to be a open air attached carport back in the day. Someone closed it in to make a garage but is smaller than a standard garage. When I remodel soon I'm going to properly insulate the exterior walls and run ducts for heating and cooling. My plan is to make a fish room for a large frag system(s), QT tank, Coral QT, water mixing station, etc.

My question is when I finish the interior walls should I drywall or just use plywood? Is their pros / cons to either? What is your experience with either in a fish room?

I'm leaning towards plywood. Its easier for me and I can mount stuff where ever I need without messing up the drywall later on. Also if it ever gets wet I can change a piece of plywood out much easier than finished drywall.

I would go plywood. If drywall, assume its like a bathroom and go green board.

Hi plywood and durarock will work to use as a frame if u want to create an in wall tank. Then u can use stone or brick to make it stand out by covering the durarock . I did it in my 200 gallon in living room. Thx

Very nice!

I agree that if you go with drywall, use green board. The R value is pretty similar between drywall and plywood, but the sound insulation properties of drywall are greater. Also, painting the materials is very different. Drywall does not absorb much paint and allows you to get a good covering with a coat of primer and a coat of paint. Plywood is going to soak up the primer and paint and will require several coats to get a good covering. If you use drywall, you could still use wood planks across multiple studs to provide places for mounting equipment.
