Good day fellow reefers! I am In the process of designing my new house and have plans to put a 300-400 gallon tank in between my office and great room with viewing on both sides. My question is how far is too far to put a fish room from display tank? I was planning on doing a 3 car garage and separate the third bay for the fish room. Any thoughts ? Thanks in advance!

Without seeing a blueprint, as close as humanely possible to the tank!

I'm sure you're already given some thought to plumbing (such as a sink, water supply and RO in the fish room), but given the volume of the tank I would also plan for a drain under the stand that you can hook up to a tray for leaks, emergencies, etc.

In terms of the viewing, I think it's a great plan. Just remember that you'll most likely run your overflow on one end and the return on the other (or some combination thereof).

Sounds like an adventure - best of luck!

Thanks for your response I will try and attach the floor plan. I had planned to put all plumbing in the slab and add a couple floor drains in case of a mishap. But I wanted to put the sump and all other equipment in the fish room. I am making the garage 10ft wider then in the plan then dividing the space.

Sounds like fun! Garage sure.
Mines in the basement, so 20 feet or so.
Just depends of the return pump size.
Horizontal water movement is not demanding like height.
