Hello all,

I recently added a small hippo tang to my 140g. Bought an established tank that was over 5 years old about two months ago and brought all the rock, water, fish and coral along with it. Haven’t lost a fish since the move and have added allot of new fish as well. Today I noticed the new hippo tang has been scratching on a rock mainly on its left side. Is this a symptom of flukes or something similar? Also am I ok to treat the entire aquarium. I’m a bit worried about all the other fish as well. Please advise. And I do not currently have a qt set up but am working on it

Unfortunately that is a symptom of nearly everything, ich, velvet, flukes. Can't treat it in the main system really no matter what. Liverock throws too many curve balls into the medication plan. I mean if it's definitely flukes you could try prazi pro in the main system but theres limitations. It also would need 2 doses about 5 days apart. And it would do nothing for ich or velvet which are the more common pest anyway.

Scratching is a symptom of a lot of things, from flukes to ich. Post photos of all the fish that show any symptoms, white dots or other discoloration. You'll likely need that QT sooner rather than later.

Definitely isn’t ich. I’ve dealt with that’s before and it does t look like that

Don’t see much of anything on the fish atm. Also only the blue hippo seems to be scratching. All fish are eating great including the blue hippo

He’s actually doing great. I treated the entire tank for flukes. He’s growing now and parameters have stabilized

I used prazipro and did 3 total treatments with water changes in between. Some corals weren’t so happy but I ran rox carbon after treatment was completed
