Fish Shortage?

I added all my fish about a year ago, and don't plan on adding any more. But in any case, all the LFS around here are closed, although drive by pickups are allowed.

We have alot of customers doing the same for us. WE REALLY APPRECIATE IT!!!!
I am glad to hear that. I love my LFS that I frequent. They work hard to keep as much stuff in stock as they can, and keep their employees working too! So I am a loyal customer! This is a tough time for sure. You are right about Sea Dwelling Creatures. Two of my three LFS told me the same thing about them shutting down for the time being. Hang in there with your store! Things will get better hopefully soon!!!! ;)

Couldn't agree more on how important the LFS are in the first place.
Now that they are in trouble I am buying stuff that I dont need or want right now anyway.
But we cant help out everyone. Its just not the LFS in trouble.
Restaurants are in even worse shape.
Honestly I want to patronize my favorites but I have worked on and around to many of them and in good times the food can be concerning.
Now its even more so.
Some of my family and friends refuse to eat out now because of the lack of cleanliness the management and employees dont have.

Some are contemplating letting gym memberships go for the same reason.
Its not unreasonable just sucks.

As I saw mentioned, essentials only is the rule in Belgium. No live stock is being sold or restocked. I just need a little goby to keep my shrimp company. The Gramma Loretto doesn't want a cleaning.

Quality Marine is the only one open as far as large wholesalers. With Flights being cancelled, they are only shipping Fedex to my LFS which doubles the price on most fish. And they are pretty much sold out. My LFS is only ordering once every two weeks, where they had a new order every week. Lucky for us Ora is still doing great, I got a pair of black storms a couple weeks ago and they are doing great.

Not what I thought my first post would be about, but I've been quietly planning a build for about a year, slowly collecting everything I needed, and just when I'm about done and setting up the hardware, bam, no fish.

My entire stocking wishlist is out everywhere, so it might be quite the paperweight for a while.

:(
That stinks. Welcome tp reef 2 reef.

My LFS said they cant get any fish right now and does not want any because of the uncertainty of things. Dry goods are easier to sell than livestock if they have to close up.

And SDC bought out ERI so that kills two birds with one stone. Just looked at LA and they only have Flame Wrasses in stock, no other reef safe wrasses.

Being home I've been paying more attention to my reef tank than usual, here's my experiences so far:

The only local lfs that has remained open has gotten in very little livestock, and what they got in was terrible. I saw two tiny (maybe half inch) royal grammas infested with ich, as well as some monster emerald crabs that were so big I thought they were gorilla crabs at first. I couldn't even get frozen mysis from them unfortunately...

I've been trying to restock CuC, and I finally was able to place an order with reefcleaners after watching their website for two weeks. He's definitly lower on stock that normal. I'm also nervous because they dropped the box off with USPS yesterday afternoon, and the tracking info says it'll be here Friday by 8 PM. I hope it's wrong...

I also placed an order with TSM Aquatics (for the first time) and thankfully they had what I needed in stock, but it doesn't look like anything has been added to their website in a while. I'm desperately hoping that shipment doesn't experience delays as it's fish only.

My LFS, other fish stores and online sellers here in China are also getting much less varied stock in lower quantities than usual. Corals don’t seem to be as affected as fish, and some of these corals are aquacultured. Fish wise anything other than Clowns are suffering in terms of numbers imported.

This virus is a really big bummer. Hope the situation improves sooner than later.

THEY ARE NOT AFFECTED BY AIRLINE FLIGHTS AS ONLY PASSENGER FLIGHTS ARE AFFECTED. THE PROBLEM IS THE FISH COLLECTORS ARE NOT GOING OUT MUCH NOW. YOU CAN CHECK LIVEAQUARIA THEY DO GET SOME FISH EVERY WEEK BUT MUCH FEWE THAN NORMAL, AND FISH SIZES ARE HIT AND MISS

When I worked at the LFS all of our livestock either came in on a Delta or Southwest passenger plane. The airlines ship all kinds of cargo on the passenger planes to be efficient. I've seen everything from newspapers, human remains, live lobsters, ect. come into the cargo area at my local airport.

My buddy at the LFS said that one of the last wholesalers he uses that still has anything (not much I may add) has switched to strictly UPS because the logistics of getting cargo space on a flight is very difficult. UPS overnight is double what he usually pays for Southwest Cargo.

Yeah just look at LA and what little is in stock.

This. I had a real hard time getting the fish/shrimp for my new nano build. Had to check inventory for about a week to finally get everything in a single shipment.

My LFS has been able to get their normal stock without any problems from all the local wholesalers. The price has gone up tremendously though. Their cost for a 3-4" foxface is $100 now.

I run a LFS. As stated it is difficult to source livestock. We grow most of our own coral, so no issues there. CUC hasn't been a problem stocking minus peppermint shrimp as they are a bi product of commercial shrimp and crab boats. Fish are difficult to source, are expensive and they are adding surcharges on anything not collected in the Caribbean or Hawaii.
