Hey guys would really like your opinion.

40 gal Nuvo aquarium

Stock current list
1x 3" Rosy Wrasse
1x 3" Midas Blenny
1x 1" Neon Goby

Looking to add 5x green chromis and 1 yellow assessor.

The tank has been up since January and is SPS dominated.
What are your thoughts?
I figured getting 5 chromis bc eventually they'll wind down harassing themselves.

Thanks guys

In a tank that size the chromis will begin fighting sooner. If you only want to end up with one or two, only get one or two. Beyond that, they are all compatible.

My only issue is that in the event the chromis die for whatever reason I'll have a few left. Their numbers dwindle easily from the beginning in my experience.

With that many chromis and a small aquarium you don't think they will school easier?

Why would you want to buy five to have them die off when you can just buy a couple in the first place? Advice above is good.

It's inevitable that only the stronger ones survive in a group from my experience. So having a few more will buffer that I won't end up with 1 left

If this was a large tank I could understand your reasoning because of a higher chance of success but in a smaller nano size your plan to sacrifice live fish to get what you ultimately want is wrong in my opinion.

I'll definitely look that up thanks for the suggestion. Any other cool schooling fish?

Smaller anthias, assessors, fairy/flasher wrasse, dart fish, dang blennies can also be kept in small groups, harems, and trios.

I thought the chromis were supposed to be schooling fish that did well in groups. Was thinking about putting 5 or 7 in my 120 gallon. Is it a fish compatability issue or a tank size issue that people are recommending against it?

Chromis usually school when there is a threat to keep safe. If there's no threat they end up picking eachother off.

Question:
Cardinal fish and neon gobies. Any issue here with cardinals eating my neon goby?

Some of the larger species may eat small fish and inverts, but not blue eyes

Issues with chromis can be reduced by having high flow and frequent small meals, besides having a 'threat' to them.

Zebra or scissortail dartfish are one of the better choices for social fish.
