My new Planet aquariums crystaline premium reef 125 gallon (48 x 24) is currently cycling. I have 5 fish from my Red Sea reefer 170 that I will transfer to this tank when its ready. My plans for this tank is going to be a bare bottom SPS dominant tank. I want a few more utilitarian fish to add to this tank.

Currently list of fish that I have on my Red Sea reefer 170
1) Pair of wide bar gladiator clown
2) Midas Blenny
3) Royal Gramma
4) Tomini Tang
5) 1 peppermint shrimp

What other utilitarian fish would you recommend ? Can I add another tang ? fox face? wrasse? Let me know. Thanks

Although they are better for a 6 ft tank, I think a yellow tang will work. I’d put him in last. I also can’t have have a tank without a wrasse. If you want utilitarian and have sand I’d go with a halichoeres like a chrysus. If you wrasses just for the heck of it many flashers and fairies will work. And you don’t need sand.

You probably have seen this, but it’s my bible when I get fairies.

Lot's of Wrasses could work in there. I would go with a One Spot Foxface over a Yellow Tang for aggression issues (booted a YT from my 90 gallon and replaced it with a One Spot and the tank has been much happier since).

I have red that 6 line wrasse can be a problem when they mature. What do you think about a mystery wrasse or 8 line for pest control ?

do you have any other tangs in your tank?

Halp!

Looking to add a grazer to my Reefer 350 that won't push around a Mandarin Dragonet. Mandarin is the only guy in the tank at the moment. I've read in a few places that some sand sifters or algae grazers might get territorial or might out compete him for pods.

Any tips?
Tank info:
Reefer 350 (91g total system, 73g display)
1 Mandarin Dragonet
2 b/w ocellaris (small) being delivered this week

Avoid the lined wrasses as they are often more a headache than a solution with aggressive behavior to tank mates. Not a good community fish IMHO. Mystery Wrasses are a bit better but are also very likely to make inverts disappear and can still have aggression issues. Halichoeres Wrasses (ie Yellow, Red Lined, H.Claudia Christmas, Melanurus, Richmond's) are IMHO by far the best compromise for pest removal. They can pick off snails, hermits and small shrimp (some worse than others) but they generally get along well with other fish and leave corals alone. Yellow and Red Lined would probably be the best compromise for pest removal without making a serious dent in your clean up crew. Melanurus are probably the best pest removers but are also the worst for doing damage to your clean up crew.

Going from a 40 breeder mostly soft coral tank to a 4 foot 90 gallon tank. Currently have 2 ocillaris clowns, 1 royal gramma and a yellow belly damsel. Thinking of adding a one spot foxface and then later maybe a kole tang. Any thoughts, especially about the foxface?
