This seems like it could be the right place for this.

If anyone has read my build thread I recently lost all of my fish to Velvet. Very sad as it's not something I've ever experienced and it moves very quickly. I'm two weeks into my fallow period of which I plan to run 11 weeks. I know it doesn't need to be that long, but that's what I've planned and will follow through with.

The velvet came with a couple of coral additions that I did not qt. They were dipped and went into the tank. I've since setup a QT so that the new fish will be introduced properly. It wasn't an issue prior as they went in together and all came from the same place.

That said I've settled on a new stock list for my tank, but am looking for help from the experts on what fish to qt together (20gal qt tank) and in which order since they can't all be qt'd and introduced at the same time. I feel like I've got an idea, but i'd rather be sure. That said I will tag a couple members I know to be knowledgeable in the area and everyone can feel free to comment as well.

Fish List: Bare bottom Reefer 525xl
Clown Goby
Blue Hippo Tang
Sailfin Tang
Yellow Tang (may change for foxface)
Scopas Tang
6 Saphire Damsels
McCoskers Flasher Wrasse
2 Ora Bred Gold x Maroon Lightning Clown
Royal Gramma - this is a maybe

Thanks in advance for the advice!

Blue tang and Sailfin tang will outgrow the tank pretty quickly, you might sub a purple for the Sailfin and if you do a hippo, plan to rehome it in a few years. The zebrasoma should be QT’d together at a minimum which is a problem in a 20 gal, you need at least a 40B for that job.

Sorry for the losses on velvet, been there though.

I avoid damsels so I don’t have much there, the wrasse and dotty should be added concurrently.

I usually avoid damsels as well, but was looking for something small that would add movement. I'm just not here enough to feed anthias multiple times a day. I'm still debating the damsels. I have seen a few threads that have had success with the saphires.

I'm guessing I should do the goby, wrasse and clowns first and then the zebramosa later? Will give me time to get a 40b in house. My plan is to be into a bigger house in three years time and with that a bigger tank. If not it won't be the first time I've exchanged a tang who has outgrown my tank. I like to get them .75-1" in size so it takes a while. I'd love a purple just trying to keep a tighter budget, but I will toss that idea around.

Yes velvet... what a pita. Lesson learn and I now have a fish medicine cabinet.
