I have just gotten a 40 breeder and I am curious for some stocking ideas for my tank. I would also like to include some inverts in my tank. Thanks!

There are tons of options at that size! Keep in mind tangs are out of the question, don’t even think about it, but beyond that, here are some of my favs:

clownfish pair ( can’t beat a classic! )
Six line wrasse ( great color, size, and a little utilitarian )
Fire fish ( some great color and an interesting shape )
Skunk cleaner shrimp ( speaks for itself, utilitarian, and beautiful )
Pincushion Urchin ( fun and unique invert that can even help you detect if something is wrong with the water! )

once again, tons that you could stock a tank of that size with, just some things to look into!

I'm stocking mine right now, plans are:
Pair of clowns I already have
Firefish and Pajama Cardinal halfway through QT
Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse being QTed by a vendor
Chalk Bass
Last fish or 2 will be something small, maybe a starcki damsel or other chrysiptera damsel if I'm feeling lucky, a rainford goby once the tank gets more established, yellow striped possum wrasse, or tailspot blenny (hesitant as they can chew on coral sometimes from what I've heard)

Thank you! Would I be able to keep a tang in the tank for about 2 years? Possibly a yellow or a blue hippo. I have heard tangs are slow growers. By the 2 years I would be upgrading to a 75.

If you are planning on upgrading, or okay with giving a fish back to the store in time, then you could do something like a yellow tang, but it really wouldn’t be happy and may not have enough food to sustain it.
