I have a 75G display which right now only contains a purple firefish, royal gramma and melanarus wrasse. Inverts are 3 trochus, 4 nassarius and a cleaner shrimp. No corals right now but am moving towards making it a LPS tank with perhaps a few SPS eventually.

I'm trying to decide on my next fish so I can begin QT with it. Some "wants" would be either a flame or longnose hawkfish, a pair of clowns, maybe a goby or blenny. Later down the road, might want a kole tang.

Right now, I'm only looking for one fish though. Any thoughts/advice given the above?

Thanks!

I really like my midas blenny. It’s very bright yellow and constantly swimming. Usually peaceful but gets little territorial towards his little cave in the rocks. The longnose hawkfish will go after cleaner shrimp IME. Dustin

Thanks. I've read mixed reviews on the longnose with a cleaner of decent size. I don't have any personal experience with them.

Thought about the midas blenny also. Have heard a lot of people really like them.

How about a Coral Beauty? I have one in my 55 gallon mixed reef. Leaves all of my corals alone.

Pretty fish, but I was under the impression that all angels would go after corals. Guess there are exceptions to everything. I'll check it out, thanks.

Firefish might become food for the hawkfish. The Tang is significantly larger than your other fish, which can invite bullying behavior. The Goby and Blenny would be good choices. It's a bit of a stretch but you could consider a One Spot Foxface instead of a Tang as they are somewhat similar in shape and perform the same function (great at hair algae removal), but have a better temperament in general. I recommend them now as an alternative to the Yellow Tang.

Honestly all dwarf angels are hit and miss on that. Some will be great provided they are well fed and others won't stop nipping at them. I have a Coral Beauty in my 90 gallon but, only have a couple of Euphyllia Frags in my tank (Frogspawn and Hammer) and other than a "once in a blue moon" type exploratory nip it totally ignores them. It doesn't hurt them at all. I will say it does help greatly to have a well established tank with algae to graze on for any dwarf angel. I feed my fish Seaweed daily and a couple of small feedings of frozen LRS Reef Frenzy. The point is that you increase your odds of success with them leaving your corals alone (or at least enough that they aren't causing them any real harm) by doing the aforementioned. Just my opinion, but I believe the Coral Beauty is one of the Dwarf Angels with a better than average success rate for people (both with aggression and coral nipping).

I would try out another wrasse just make sure you keep your melanarus fed. My Melanarus just ate 2 of my
cleaner
l shrimps

A flame or longnose hawk will NOT eat a purple firefish. They may eat shrimp, but most of the ones I kept were safe with shrimp if the shrimp were in the tank first. They are highly personable and hardy.

Flame and coral beauty angels are among the 'safer' angels, I have seen specimens of each species pick at corals.

Purple tilefish are bold and bright purple, midas blennies are personable, a fairy wrasse is colorful and active.
