Fish Suggestions

Hi all! I am hoping one of the seasoned aquarists here could help narrow down potential new tank mates for my 56 gallon display.
The tank is about 7 months old.
I started to see coralline algae about a month ago.
I have been trying for months to build a copepod population with the help of Algae Barn. Which has been very successful in the refugium. However I am not sure how many, if any, are getting into the display.
Any advice or experiences shared would be greatly appreciated.

Tank/Filtration:
Red Sea Max E-260
(LR and LS)
Trigger Ruby 30E sump
(chaeto, crushed coral and LR in refugium)
Octo Classic 150 skimmer
Various 4 return pump


Current stocking list:
Percula Clown
Flame Hawkfish
Bullet Goby
Candy Hogfish (2 Spot Hogfish)
Fire shrimp
Blue Tuxedo Urchin
Small Conch and misc. snails
SPS, LPS and Sofies

What kind of fish are you interested in

Yellow clown goby
(Both will be fine in the tank)

Royal gramma can't beat the color
Pink stripped wrasse pic dont do this fish justice

It would be nice to have something active, pretty, utilitarian or a combo of all three - but definitely one who should get along with the others

They would go after shrimp. Not ideal in this set up. Fairy wrasses would be a good fish to have.

Roy gramma would be perfect great color and personality and active after they settle into the tank.

fwiw beware of your hogfish, they apparently get quite mean especially towards wrasses and will probably eat all of your inverts. at least that's what i found when i looked into them, my lfs had a very pretty candy.. he tried to keep it with a pintail fairy wrasse and had to remove the pintail quickly before the candy killed it

How aggressive is your Flame Hawfish? I had a Flame Hawkfish in my 50g cube and had to re-home because he started to get too aggressive. It's one of my favorites fish but really hard to keep in a small tank due to its aggressive behavior.

He is one of my favorite too. Very curious little character. I have not seen any aggression from him yet. Although he is very tenacious during feedings.

She has been in the tank for several months now. She has been a great addition. Striking yellow coloration. I will keep an eye on her for aggression. And hope snails don't start turning up dead. Thanks for the tip.

What about an orchid dottyback? Or is there a Tang of some kind that would work in that display until I upgrade to a 200 gallon tank?

I love orchid dottybacks. It could work well, depending on the other fish on the list. It may be difficult to mix with a royal gramma, for example.

Skip the tang until after you upgrade.

I was concerned that the hogfish could be a problem with the dottyback. Any thoughts on that relationship? Also, what are your thoughts on how much to stock?

I think it would fit in with your current group. The hogfish would be the only concern. I haven't kept the two together. I would use an acclimation box like a critter keeper for a couple days.

Critter box is a great idea. But does it stress the fish while he's in there?
