Fish tank temp got WAY too high

Hi, I’ve gotten home and I just checked my fish tank it was at 93.2°f. I immediately panicked, and started the fan, and got some ice in a ziplock bag and put it the tank. I luckily only have fish right now, and all three of them are acting somewhat normal. Will everything be okay?

I think you'll be alright. Why did it get so high? I had metal halides at one time and had to resort to using a chiller.

Turn off heaters and let the tank lower down to temp slowly. Too big of a temp swing too fast can actually do more damage than the high temp in the first place.

My tank is only 20g, so pretty small. But I do think my problem was my heater malfunctioning. I do have a backup, so I’m using that once my tank cools down

It may depend on what type of fish you have but during a heat wave when I was out of town (of course!), our central air died and my tank go to 92, I had no fish loses but lost all SPS and some LPS.

I would advise investing in a ink bird with a heater that also has its own thermostat. That way, both would have to fail to cook the tank (unlikely).

I had a heater malfunction once, it was not pretty. That said, do you really think you need a heater? With all the pumps and lights, they'll keep the temperature at a moderate temperature. But before I got my chiller, I kept a 1 liter bottle with frozen water in case of emergency. Temperature doesn't change that rapidly when you put in a bag or bottle of ice.
