Hello

I have a question today regarding fish tanks and Fire places. Now I know we aim to keep our temperature as stable as possible however I have a dilemma and concern .

We are coming up on fall and winter and I will be burning wood in my stove . My tank is in the same room about 15-20 feet away . The room itself is maybe 100-150 sq feet not sure exactly haha . Anyway I burned fires all winter last year and my tempature in the tank would go up about 1-2 degrees F on the gauge.

My questions now after my rambling......

1) is the smoke from the fire any concern for the tank life?

2 ) would temporary temperature swings of 1-4 degrees be a concern on a day to day baseis or should be fine ?

3) how many of you if any of you use fireplaces in the same room as your tank?

Not a fireplace(open wood burning), I used to have a wood burning stove about 5 feet from my tank that ran 24/7 the entire heating season.

Never had a problem with the temperature fluctuations, or the smoke.
Any issues with O2 / CO2 or tank pH issues?

I generally have windows open because the stove is too hot. So no, no PH issues.

Only issue I ever had was when going to bed and we would stuff the stove for the night, I had to turn fans on the tank to keep temps down.

Sorry I should have specified mine is a wood burning stove as well.

Good to know thanks for the information !

Hmm, an idea is the cool air will travel from outside into the house and up the chimney.

So counterintuitively, it could actually improve O2 levels... in theory.
