Fish that don't jump

setting up a fluval evo 13.5 in a few months and want some fish that wont jump out wont have a lid on it as upgrading the light

so far the only fish i have seen is the Hi Fin Clown Goby (Stonogobiops yasha)
The yasha goby will jump, in fact all fish jump if given a reason as to do so or even some do it just for fun. Granted mine has yet to jump however she has tried.

I have had several clowns attempt to jump and I always have a lid. Any reason as why you don’t want even a mesh lid that makes it look rimless?

I have a kraken lid on my Evo. Bit expensive, but fits nicely and loss of any expensive fish more than offsets the cost. If going with just regular ocellaris clowns, probably more cost-effective to risk it, but that's also not a nice thought...

Please do not go the goby route period in any species without a lid. Ive lost 3 diamond gobies and I have glass lids on my reef. Gobies can be the most amazing targeted jumpers in existence.

Many nano tank fish species can jump, including most blennies, dartfish/firefish, and gobies. I would recommend a pair of ocellaris clowns and either a yellowtail blue damsel, azure damsel or a cherub angel if you are going to go topless.

I’ve kept a pair of clowns in a topless tank for 4 years now - you shouldn’t have many issues unless the female starts bullying the male. But as long as you get a pair that’s bonded at your LFS you shouldn’t have that issue

As you do seem to be going for a lid, you can go for the more uncommon species. IMHO an occelaris clownfish is a bit “basic” so I do recommend going deeper into the Gobies, Blennies, Wrasses ect… Maybe even go deeper into the clownfishes

Clowns aggression is relative - it's more because they become territorial and can be aggressive eaters. Typically they wouldn't bother a goby since they don't share the same space in the water column, BUT anything can happen, especially in smaller systems.

A goby/pistol shrimp pair in a nano tank is always fun to watch!
