Fish that produce the most waste

I swear my Midas blenny blows a storm every time I walk up to the tank. He's surely a glutton, always with a full stomach after eating 3 times a day. It's not that I mind, just have never had another fish evacuate his bowels 24/7 and he's definitely not shy about it.

Most herbivorous fish produce a lot of waste. They typically have very inefficient digestive systems, hence their need to eat (and poop) constantly. My foxface is the most prolific fouler of the water in my tank.

I know exactly what you mean. Every time I walk up to my tank to feed it all of my tangs, fox face and midas blenny literally can't drop a load fast enough. Its like they didn't want to get rid of the old food until the knew new food was coming.

I've heard tangs are prolific poop machines, but surprised my blenny is since Midas blennies don't typically go for algae. At least mine doesn't.

Midas blenny eat less algae than other blennies like starry or lawnmower. True omnivores.

When I had my valentini he was extremely messy in the way he ate. On the few occasions I fed flakes he would take one bite and turn one piece in 20 small pieces that no one ate. He wasn't bad with frozen food or small pellets.

I have a lieutenant tang and a sailfin tang and they drop at least 1/3rd of their weight when im about to feed the tank. They are poop factories.

This thread reminds of some the discussions my friends and I had in Jr. High. I agree with the majority. My tangs seem to have the human equivalent of irritable bowel syndrome from the amount of poop they make!

I had a yellow tang and a fox face years ago (separate tanks), but they didn't hold a candle to the lawn mower blenny I have now. It reminds me of the hippos at the zoo.

Just added a Tailspot Blenny to my tank. He's the smallest fish in the tank but poops the most.
