Fish Trap

I have a huge blue tang in my tank and i need to get rid of her. She's getting way too big. Whats a good trap to get her out of there. Obviously i won't want to net her out because my tank is full of corals and i can't afford to chase her around and accidentally kill my corals in the process.

IMHO your best bet is a sea weed clip on the front glass. A big net. Patience. I caught a powder brown this way. I held the net still for about 20 minutes about ten inches from the clip. One shot at it so you got to let them get confident and then strike.

Depending upon how big she is ..... the best fish trap I've used has been the "Acclimate" box. Depending upon how brave the fish is - I've caught them between minutes and days. If they are leery of the trap - I put it in the tank and start feeding them in it ..... when the fish is going into it to eat then I stand there after feeding and drop the trap door. And it really is handy for acclimating new fish and coral too! :wink:

I use acrylic pieces or some eggcrate and block off parts of the tank to give you a smaller area to work in. This is one reason why I aquascape with multiple islands, so I can put a barrier in between and make it easier to catch something if I need.

I do the same. If you can use a piece of acrylic and trap her in the corner that works well.

I have had success in the past of just putting a net in the tank on a frequent basis, with no intention of doing anything with it...I also will feed from it, fish will go into it and eat. That way when I need to catch a fish they trust it...I put food in, and they go into it and bam, I got my fish...also being slow to move it helps...fast moving things scares fish by nature (its a live saving defense mechanism and that cause them to dart into hiding...and most people try to go afte the fish fast, and they just hide instead of "sneaking" up on them.

Its a myth that fish do not have any sort of long term memory...they do and they get used to certain things, after some time...

+1. Used the Acclimate trap recently to get Paly eating Flame Angel out. Put the trap in for 3 days and fed in the trap, Angel got used to it and on day 3 it took about 30 seconds to catch her.

got a trap from F&S and have had the fish swim in and out multiple times but the Wrass I want. So I tink it would work fast for you. Have it flat in the tank

Whent to LFS and asked about your issue. If the fish is bib then a fihing pole, babless hook and silver sides.

I've used one of these, works very well:

Aqua Medic Fish Trap 11" x 6-3/4" x 6-3/4" High

I've also caught fish by leaving the net in the tank for a few and feeding them at the front. As mentioned, strike once and strike fast This seems to work well for tangs.

I've also caught fish with barbless hooks.

Hook is the way to go. Bigger the fish, easier it is. I use a #18 fly hook.

I think the #18 barbless will work and the F&S trap I used work great.
