Hello,

I have had reef tanks since I was 16, so now Im going on year 7 of having one. At first, I found myself fascinated with fish and any coral added to the system was just a way to add movement or cover rocks, etc.

However, the last 3/4 years or so, I havent added a single fish (or considered getting one), but my coral stock is always increasing. Even as I upgrade tanks, I am not doing so to fit new fish, rather to let my coral have more room to grow. I wonder if this is a natural process among reefers, a transition from fish to coral.

So I ask you this, which do you like more, fish or coral? And why? (maybe you like both, but try to choose one).

I would say I like coral more. I like the ability to grow and frag something makes me feel good about reefing, that as coral in the wild dies due to pollution and climate change, reefers have proven that it is possible to have coral grow and reproduce in your own home.

Coral because there is many colors and easier to care for overall. Some are also very cheap which makes it good for reefing on a budget. You can even frag them and start a buisness!

You can also add much more of it.

Fish for sure. Truthfully, if I had the opportunity to own a VERY large tank (in the thousands of gallons) it wouldn't be a reef tank. More likely I'd keep sharks & stingrays.

I'd say I like them equally, but if I could have two tanks, I'd probably have an aggressive fish only tank as well. So I guess my vote would be fish. I'd have a fish only tank, but I would not have a coral tank without fish. I love both though.

I have moved towards more corals as of lately but I do plan to get a large tank someday for fish only, but I do mainly prefer coral.

I say both... but I've always thought about a coral only tank!

When I'm looking at a tank full of fish and coral I tend to look at both equally making sure it all looks right... and then I do the omg its beautiful look thru. Lol
