So I have a question about 3 months ago I had a Christmas wrasse that was about 5 years old all of a sudden his stomach got HUGE and eventually he couldn't swim any more and died. Well I was in NYC this weekend and when I got back home I noticed my Filefish now has a HUGE Stomach [Hes also about 3 years old].

Once or twice a day I feed Flake food and sometimes once or twice a week I feed them frozen cubed food. When I'm feeding the Flake food I do put a Good amount of food in the tank. Probably more than I should.

[Tank background I have a 265 display tank with about 15 fish i would estimate]

Do you think feeding a lot of flake food would cause this to happen to a fish?
Do you think its the brand of flake food [I can find out what brand it is when i get home]?
Should I just ditch the flake food?
Or is my problem bigger than the food?

Thanks in Advance!

Could be an infection. My mystery wrasse got really bloated and I treated food with metronidazole and he got better. It did cause my large sponge to turn white, but came back full color after a month or so.

It could be a blockage, to much brine shrimp has been attributed to that.

Also, many fish don't stop eating if food is available, so smaller frequent meals are better than larger meals.

Just make sure they'll still eat flake or pellets for vacations and auto feeders. Lesson learned.
