Fish you've had that eat clams?

Please share which fish you have owned either now or in the past that eat or aggravate clams. Please be specific about exactly what the issue was and what you did about it. Was it just nipping once or twice, or full on eating? Did you give up the fish or the clam?

I very recently removed a female melanarus wrasse because she had started nipping at my clam mantles. I let it go and watched for a few days but she was doing it on a regular basis and literally biting off small pieces of the mantle edges and so she was removed. She had been a good citizen for almost 2 years prior to that and she was well fed ...... just developed a taste for clam all of a sudden out of the blue.

Great topic and interested to great what peoples experiences have been. I have heard and read the same thing about angels, I know that some people have had no problem or very little with angels and corals. I am interested if anyone can share their experience with keeping angels and clams together? I would like to do a dwarf angel in my tank but also would be interested in having a clam also.

I had a flame angel that took care of my 2 clams, he was a modern citizen for several years until out of the blue turned into this lps / clam killer. :mad:

I've had a few Angels nip at them because that is what they do.... I wanted to try and find a good one and was never successful.

Snowflake Eel, found out the hard way they like clam gills...

Peppermint shrimp, they pick at clams right between the mantle and shell for some reason...

Some wrasses that were looking for pods etc.

And this guy, nuff said.

yellow goby the one like the green clown goby not the watchman goby he nipped & nipped till he had quite a few good sized pieces gone in just a few days so he had to go I put some shrimp in a net & caught him in under 30 seconds couldn't believe it wish the 6 line wrasse had been as easy to catch that required a total tank tear down (no he wasn't attacking the clam just killing all new fish additions)

My melanurus wrasse did one day, it didnt pick on it as much as find the muscle underneath the clam and devour it one day while i wasnt home..... We found the melanurus a new home and lost a clam.
I regret getting rid the fish however because he was just so docile

We have kept clams in the past with a flame angel that left them alone, but we would not trust our Regal Angel with them.

Dang my melanurus doesn't even mess with my peppermint shrimp much less clams. You sure you guys don't have Vroliks wrasse I think is name. It looks the same pretty much but eats inverts.

To my knowledge, I've never had any fish that have messed with a healthy clam. That's over 15 years, with fish ranging from a moorish idol, regal angel, various dwarf angels, tangs, etc. I do feed an inordinate amount of food in each set up I've had, which may be the reason.

Koran angel. Ate the whole thing before i could save it. It them became a meal for the whole tank. Got rid on the Koran.

I have had dwarf angels with clams before with no problem. I also feed often 4 times a day-four cubes of mysis and one formula II.. The idol had a full cube of formula II every morning to himself in addition to the nori and flake food. When I sold the fish the buyer was amazed on how fat they were. Each fish has its own personality and mine seemed to like a wide variety of foods including LPS.

Interesting topic! I'm glad to see this because there are fish on here that I love but have hesitated on because of clam eating histories. Chris- is that a clam eating the clown? I can't see it very well.

That would be our Regal, LOL. We watched in HORROR as she darted over and made a FEAST out of a very expensive Elegance coral. We pulled the coral out, but the damage was already done. Anyone that has ever been to our house knows our fish are all very well fed, LOL.
