Hello!

Sorry if this is in the wrong spot, I wasn't sure where to post it. But does anyone that sells Euphyllia (and ships it) keep their frags in fishless tanks for at least 6 weeks? Or know of a vendor that does?

I'm saving up to replace a number of coral I lost in a crazy algae outbreak, but I QT all my corals and have been having a real problem getting any Euphyllia to live in my QT tanks. Other LPS is fine but torches, frogspawn, hammer, etc all die :(

I know that Dr. Reef and Premier Reefs sells QT coral, but they haven't had anything I've wanted lately.

Thanks in advance!

TSM aquatics but they don't get much in. Is there a specific problem with your QT system? That could potentially be addressed?

That's what I'm thinking I might have to do now. I'm not totally sure what it is yet. I only set it up when I need it with whatever bottle bacteria I have and a few small pieces of rock from the main tank. It's got a cheap power head in it, but it's only 10 gallons so I think the flow is okay. And the light is a Kessil H80.

I can get other LPS like Blastos and plates through okay and all sofies are usually okay. I do 15ish % water changes weekly. I don't have the space to set up a more permanent QT anymore, wish I did as I could get them through back then :(

Any suggestions would be really appreciated!

Thank so much!

Maybe you've just been unlucky and there isn't necessarily something wrong. Just worth considering.

Lol I'd believe it. I'm going to tweak a few things this weekend and see if it makes a difference. There are 2 torches left in there that might have a chance, fingers crossed.

Premier reefs does keep coral in fishless tanks at least 10ft from any fish.

Live aquaria's coral den I think is supposed to be QT'd coral.

What seems to happen with the euphyllia in the QT tanks?

Most times they just shrivel up and die. I've managed to get them to last a little longer lately, but not the full 6 weeks I'm aiming for :/

What Euphyllia are you looking for? I have frags in a fishless system.
Really? For at least 6 weeks? Right now, just a yellow-ish frogspawn, but I'm also looking for a bubble coral and a long tentacle plate.

Do you know the par, nitrate, and phosphate levels in that tank? Were the corals fed?

I can check them, well not the phosphate, but it's a pretty small QT tank, about 8 gallons, and I do water changes every 2 weeks now. I just have an ammonia badge in there so that's the only thing I actively monitor.

They could be starving with no nutrients in there. I would get the water a little dirty. In a tank with fish this is easy but in a fishless QT not so much.

Occasionally I will add a coral but not that often. It's a frag/newadditions/overflow tank. I had a black molly at one point but haven't seen him in about 6 months so. My DT went through a 78 day fallow and all fish were treated with copper and meds while in QT. I also run UV on the frag coral system.

No long tentacle plate. Only bubble I have is a green splatter pearl bubble. There are some octo/frogspawn and a variety of branching hammers and a few torches along with an assortment of other LPS and some softies. etc.

I will see if I have any photos. The colors on the frogspawn kinda change with light spectrum.

That would make make sense. I did change my WCs to every 2 weeks and I added the inverts I was QTing so I could kinda feed them, guess we'll see. Thanks for the advice!
