Fishroom Reality Check

I understand the rational for the filtration refugiums to be added on to the system. I hate to see you do what I did. I think I added mine too soon and it stripped the system to zero. When I saw the cheato growth stall I should have cut it way down and cut back the light. and maybe added iron too? I think anyway. I am not very experienced with this, just read a lot. I am wondering if adding them later after the tank has more life and is creating lots of waste to be managed. Or are you thinking they will take up what is fueling the cyano, and chrysothings?
Are you making diagrams and just building it out in your head? of course share the diagrams if you are.
My chaeto fuge never took off. Nutrients too low. Still too low.

But I have an empty 40g section that I want to make pretty- so I’m thinking of dosing nitrates and phosphates to keep them up at 5ppm and 0.03ppm respectively. Hopefully the knock on effect is that my cyano and Chrysophytes take a hit and recede.

I just want some nice cool looking macros to be hones.

As for diagrams- mainly in head. But I do write down some schematics. But I’ll do better stuff to share on the write-ups

I know what you mean about wanting a macro fuge. Me too. But for now I still have my skimmer off line, so a macro fuge will have to wait for me. I look forward to seeing yours come to fruition.

i've decided im going to dose the requireed nutrients and force it. I dont like looking at empty tanks of water. it'll keep the number-crunching, reagent-spilling, chemistry-set-loving scientist in me happy

I so want to see your nitrates and Phos higher.
Higher than 5 and 0.03?

I’ve had a bunch of people tell me that’s exactly where I need them. Nitrates 5-10, phs at 0.03
What do you run?

I mean, I already know your British water is like 9% phosphate (not ppm, lol) but that can’t be helped...

Last test (about 4 weeks ago) phos was about .15 and nitrates around 40, just taken, obviously I can't do sps though! ;)

What do you use to test?

I’d definitely run gfo to bring it down- your poor sps has really bad PE...

I love how everyone’s tank runs differently, with just amazing results possible across the board.

Got an FTS? I’d love to see

Sort of, view from my desk chair last night, I view if from the end, focus was on the hawk fish, not my best attempt! ;)

Blast from the past...

I’ve been thinking about a wall mounted 20long mangrove and sexy shrimp tank for like 2 years... it won’t happen in that configuration but I’m thinking some nice 5lb chunks of LR, 2” samdbed, a bunch of macroalgae a d some light invert stocking

Q for @Victoria M since you like ‘decorations’... what do you think of an underwater waterfall?

It is a cool illusion but really truly I like natural displays. It is just in the QT that I like to play around a little but and make them obnoxious. You gonna do this?

Doing some tinkering. Had these 12v, 1amp 1000 lumen cob leds in my project box for like 3 years... I did try using a red blue led tape, but output was dismal and I like seeing the green.
