Ok so i got this cool little AIO frag tank to set up next to my display tank. Its almost 7gal in volume and as you can see its just the tank. I would like to know what the best filtration method would be to set this up. I would like to stay with the bear bottom and maybe throw in some seasoned live rock in the corners and maybe in the sump. There are three chambers so i was thinking about making a filter sock holder for stage 1 and live rock and maybe some media in a bag in stage 2 and return pump in stage 3. Any advice would be much appreciated.

7g is a tough one to keep stable as a frag tank. I would throw some LR in the first chamber and maybe some rubble under the higher rack in the display part, then i would add a hot filter with carbon on it in the second, then change or clean out every two weeks. I would try to hide the heater under the taller rack as well, and if you could fit a small ph for flow that would be great as well : )

I dont see a point in running a hot filter just put the carbon in one of the chambers maybe build a media rack out of egg crate. Id put marine bio spheres in one of the chambers instead of live rock. Just put the spheres in your tank to seed them first. Or u could drill that tank and conmect it to your system.

The only reason i would suggest a hot is because its easier than having carbon and a filter sock and does the same thing. Alot of people think HOT's are evil in this hobby but actually have a time and a place.

Oh i use hot filters. But it would be cheaper to just make a media rack to but a sponge and carbon and i thin it would be neater. But if he has a use for the third chamber then by all mean put a HOT filter on there for more room for equipment.

I didn't want to tie it to my system. I like the media rack i know there are a couple ATO systems with them now. I think nuvo is one of them.

I was thinking about using the spin stream by Aqua Gadget off or the return to create movement. The tank is 16x16x6 im thinking a pump even as small as a pp4 will be to much.

I should have the tank next week. Dan is building it for us and we went just a little larger to a 17x16x8. Supper excited about it. The stand is all set up and attached to the stand on the display tank.

Cool.Have you made the final decision on the media and equipment that you plan to use?

The tank is my sons project. Dan hooked us up with a media basket that will go in the first chamber. Live rock or a small skimmer in the second then a return pump. I have several rocks covered in zoa in the big display tank an thought about putting one in the frag tank for additional bio filtration.
