Hi all I have a flame angel who is acting very normal and eats very well but he has devoloped a small bump on its left side . At the tip of the bump there appears to be either a small scratch or perhaps it’s the tip of what ever is causing the bump to protrude past the scales. I tried to get some good pics but he just would not stay still.

Looks very much like a nick or injury. One that I would say keep an eye on it before reacting with treatment. Marine fish have the ability to heal naturally and quickly. If it looks worse or not healing by tomorrow, treatment will be needed in a separate quarantine tank using seacjhem kanalex or neoplex with added aeration for at least 5 days

As @vetteguy53081 said, this could just be a nick or minor injury.
How long have you had the fish? It looks pretty thin at the nape behind the eye.

I was going to say - it looks thin - and to me - looks possibly like an abscess-type issue. If you could look at the questions below it might help give an answer?

Update.. I found him dead this morning! Last night he ate as usual and seemed ok other than the lump. This morning that lump seems to have ruptured and was crab food. UGH!

Sorry to hear it. Did you mean that the lump was some food stuck in its stomach that came out - OR that a crab ate the 'lump'. In either case - I agree UGH - So sorry to hear about the Angel - its always a difficult situation

The lump apparently ruptured. And the crabs were starting to eat him.

Looks like it could have been some kind of abscess or - other internal issues. So sorry - but - in all honesty the biggest help to these forums - is when people post the 'update' after the problem - so thanks!!!!!!

Sorry to hear. Internal parasite was likely issue but hard to confirm as after death could be scavengers eating at belly area
