Does anyone know what this small white bump on my flame angles head is? He has been in an observation tank with two small chromis for just over a week. All three fish are eating well and tank parameters are ammonia 0, nitrites 0 and nitrates between 5 and 10. Managing with water changes.
Thank you very much for your time.

John

I'm assuming he's a new fish? If so, have you treated with any medications yet? That could be ich, although the white spot looks a little large. Lymphocystis or even a bacterial infection are two other possibilities.

Yes he has been with me about one week. I have just started him on Garlic Guard. I am hoping its an injury and not ICK, But if it is he is in a Qt tank so thats not the end of the world. The Bad part is I do have some pond matrix and an extra rock that I am no longer using from my display in there. Can I treat the tank with that in there. Besides being unusable for any future systems is it bad to treat with that stuff in there?

You can; but copper levels will fluctuate in the early on, so I recommend daily testing.

Looks like ich to me, but certainly could be lymph as well. If it disappears in a few days or so it's more than likely ich.

So today fish looks absolutely the same. She is eating very well but the one white spot is still there. I have just two questions. When i set my tank up I did it with an extra piece of live rock and some pond matrix. I was thinking of slowing taking that out over the next few days to a week before treating as long as there are no further signs of distress. I am doing that because I have been reading the treatments are more consistent without the live rock in the aquarium. Does that sound ok? Also what copper treatment would you recommend? It is my understanding Flame angles may be hard to treat... I also have two very small Green Chromis that look great with no signs of any illness. Thanks Again for your time.

@Sppf121 I would use Coppersafe at a therapeutic range of 1.5 - 2.0 ppm. You can use an API copper test kit to measure it.

Removing the LR will help keep your Cu level stable.

Yes and also I've had no trouble treating flame angels in copper ever and I've successfully treated a dozen or more.

Me either. I almost always have flame angels at the store in therapeutic levels of coppersafe with no troubles at all.

Yep they seem completely unaffected by even prolonged exposure. Rock beauty and potters are a different story, they can easily handle 30 days but more than 90 they'll deteriorate.

Hi John. What ever happened to this Angel? I have a new one that has the exact same bump.
Thanks,
Chris

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

Not all spots are created equal (grin).

What you should do is start a fresh problem report. The link below my name here, or at the top of the fish disease section will take you to a sticky note as to helpful information we need to properly assess you fish.

Thanks,

Jay
