Ok, so I'm getting a flame hawkfish this Thursday (along with a pair of scribbled angelfish). And this is my first hawkfish in my years of keeping saltwater fish. I've kept clownfish, tangs, angels. I've got a few questions:

1. I've read they're considered jumpers, is an eggcrate enough? I've had both DT and QT covered with eggcrate.

2. How do you QT them? Is the usual prazipro + copper enough?

I've heard and seen they have great personalities that's why I wanted to have one. Thanks!

1. As long as the fish is bigger than the holes in the egg crate, it will hold the fish in. Usually flame hawks are deep-bodied enough that they shouldn't fit through the holes.

2. It depends a bit on your QT methods. They handle copper and prazi just fine. Hawks are really resistant to disease, so personally I would prophylactically treat them. I've seen accounts of tanks being wiped out by velvet, but a hawk or blenny or gobie survive. So you might want to treat them to avoid bringing in a "Typhoid Mary."...just my opinion.

Yes I prophylactically treat all incoming fish including angels and tangs so as not to bring an infected fish to my display. Thanks for all the inputs! Greatly appreciated.

Post pics of them once they are settled. Two of my favorite species - flame hawk & scribbled angels!

One of my favourite tank inhabitants! Very unique character. Always finding new perches to hang out in. My top is 50% open space and I’ve had mine for 2 years. He often sits on the overflow a mm from the top of the aquarium but is yet to jump. You are going to love your hawkfish!
