I am looking to get one more fish for my tank and I've always been a fan of hawks. I want to hear some experiences that you've had with either flame hawks or longnose hawks (I want a little more red in my tank)
I have a 120 gallon aquarium and none of my fish are small enough to be prey to either type of hawk in my opinion.
My biggest concern is that I have a lawnmower and I know they inhabit the same territory of the tank and don't want major aggression issues. Also I'm a fan of my cleanup crew (mostly different snails and hermits with a few emerald crabs) my lfs has them and their both about the same price at the moment.
Any input would be greatly appriciated.

with either, you can probably say goodbye to the hermits. mine doesn't bother my shrimp, coral, or other fish.

I have a flame and my cuc is still intact but my hermits are big and my snails breed like guppys. He isn't aggressive at all

I have a marine betta who took out some of my cleanup crew so I am hoping the survivors are gonna be big enough for the hawk to leave alone.

I had a longnose for years nd it didn't bother anything, lucky I guess. They have allot of character and are cool perching on corals. I'd go longnose.

I have a Longnose, model citizen so far but he's baby and I've only had him a few weeks. Hope he stays that way. Very cool fish, worth the risk IMO

I ended up getting a flame hawk last night. Head already ate during my morning feeding and hasn't touched any inverts (that I know of) also I only paid $15 for it so that is pretty sweet too. So far he is leaving my blenny alone so that's also pretty awesome. He hadn't even been. In my tank 24 hours so maybe I should knock on wood.

I have had my Flame Hawkfish for 6 years and he has been nothing buy a model citizen... he was my first fish in the tank as well and he has never bothered anything I put into tank after him either...he is full of personality and a great fish all around! Good luck with yours!

Thank you, he was at my job for about 2 months and never bothered anything in the tank with him. Hes fat and will eat out of my hand so I kinda just had to get him.

I had a flame hawk and a long nose hawk in a 120 together. Both were model citizens never bothered anything or each other. The Long nose did manage to find the one tiny opening on the canopy and jumped. Make sure you have a good top as they do like to jump.

I had a flame hawk for three years with no issues. Then one day, all of my cleaner shrimp were gone. He was the only tank inhabitant with a known possibility for eating inverts.

Well I hope mine doesn't go after any inverts. So far it's pretty good but it's literally been 2 days. He eats krill from my hand so that alone would make him worth a head ache of my cleaners dissappear.
