I've heard stories of their high mortality rate but I'd really like to try my hand at one, I've got a tank full of happy, healthy corals and a awesome feather duster who is growing like crazy. I only have a few small fish (1 clownfish, 1 lawnmower blenny, a yellow watchman, and 3 small barnacle blennies). Microfauna is doing great too, I think it'd be an awesome addition to the tank, any advice?

The issue is they are filter feeders pretty much and you need to spot feed them things like phytoplankton or marine snow. They won't get enough food just by sitting there waiting for fallen tiny bits of food to float into their mouths

Large Refugium , rarely use socks, small skimmer.

Although it’s not a flame , just a red, Mine is on year 2 ,3 (maybe more can’t remember, tank is almost 4)

Get several, they’re already stressed and likely hungry. Of the 3 I got , I have one.

I don’t spot feed , rarely if ever use phyto. I rotate foods, some have spirulina , i feed frozen Rotifers, blow off the rocks fairly regularly.

Sounds perfect with my feeding regimen. I rarely spot feed (but when I do every coral gets fed individually, usually a mix of reef roids, phytoplankton, and zooplankton). The next day I turn up my flow for a few hours and let all the floor food go back to the current and into the refugium/sump. I use a sock, but its more of a splash thing, my skimmer does very little. I would get a few, but I don't think I have room. Any pics?

Pretty boring. Looks like a scallop. Lol

Def look for healthy ones just into the lfs or is say order from eastern vendors. I belive they are from the caribbean .

Thats a really cool spot for him, I'm guessing they don't need a ton of light? I've seen my LFS keep them for months and they are still flashing the entire time.

They don’t need much life because they’re not like corals that are photosynthetic through the algae in them. You have to spot feed phytoplankton or other small filter feeder foods.

I'll try to pick one up from the LFS this week or next, they sound really fun and I've got a good place for them
