Are flame scallops really an expert level invert? I've read multiple things about them and read they usually don't live very long in the home aquarium. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions and can confirm they don't live long in the home aquarium? Or can share their experience or knowledge about them?

All filter feeders require a lot of particulates in the tank all day. By expert they mean al lot of food a lot of nutrient export. Very much in line with non photo synthetic. Coral. You can't over skim you can't under skim. And never want crystal clear water.

My current scallop is about a year now. I have a muscle that I've had for four years. Four more thatvive had only a year too.
I run a simple tank. No socks. Big refugium. Lots of diverse algaes. Lots of bugs. Two Dsbs. I. Don't rise food. Usually feed only once a day. I don't dose phyto regularly. I have a very big pod population and a tunze skimmer rated for the size of my tank. The tunze are not good at particulates like the monster skimmers.
It's not a picture of furniture tank it looks like a reef with all its flaws and life. But it works for the animals I keep.
