Hey guys, just wanted to know a little more about these guys from people who have had them or still do. I am thinking about getting one when and would like some info on what food they eat and what special needs they might have

They are a great fish, the obviously arent active swimmers just like the rest of the hawkfish family because of the lack of swim bladder like other fish
They can bother some corals by sitting on them all the time, especially if they decide they like one particular coral better than the others it will stop it from opening up

They have always been my second favorite fish next to orchid dottybacks, However the last tank I had I had a flame hawk and an orchid dottyback in the same tank and I guess the hawk decided he wanted a snack so he tried to eat my dottyback and choked on it so I lost both of my favorite fish...

yea most hawk fish can show some sort of aggression towards smaller fish and have been known to try and snack on the smaller ones

The one I had was pretty spunky, but less aggressive that then other Hawkfish I have had. He did well with clownfish, wrasses, a pinktail trigger.

Agreed, I had a Flamehawk and an Arc eye.The flame wasnt nearly as aggressive as the Arc eye, but they both thrashed my Yellow watchman a few times too many so they both were given away

I have never seen aggression from a flame hawk, Mine is a sissy and nobody in my tank is ever mean lol. flames like meaty foods and could potentially eat small inverts, they have awesome personality and thats pretty much all you need to know. they also do very well in QT. Mine was in QT for 6 weeks and she thrived under medication.

I just had to remove mine for being so aggressive he was killing smaller fish. I do not recommend unless he will be the smallest fish in the tank.

Here is the thing with FH. They will
Be ok with what's in ur tank when u introduce them. Anything after is in trouble though.

I agree, definitely a last addition to a tank. Shrimp and small fish are iffy with them! Otherwise they are a sweet fish IMO. Love them perching on everything!

try a longnose hawk they have the interesting hawking (watching) habit, and for me have not been aggresive at all

I love the flame hawks, they are my favorite fish. I have a pair in my 120, and they always hang out together. They almost seem to play with each other, bouncing around and seemingly trying to sneak up on each other. It really enterains my kids. I've never seen aggression from them towards each other or other fish.
