I cannot find a consistent answer on how to acclimate shipped flasher wrasses.

Most seem to recommend not drop acclimating. Is it really just float and release?

I’ve tried searching the forums and cannot find anything (via Tapatalk). Some insight or guidance would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

I got my flasher wrasse from live aquaria and floated bag did the 1/2 cup tank water for however long says in sheet they send. Only thing I would do different is I used a net and the wrasse bit onto it. Hopefully they black bag it. Dustin

The problem is the ammonia build up in the bag, as soon as you open that bag the waste in the water starts converting to ammonia and could quickly overwhelm a fish. I personally float for temp then open the bag confirm SG compared to my QT and then release. I do not dump any of LA water into my tank.

In general what do you prepare your QT SG to in prep for LA fish? And what do you find to be an acceptable range between the bag and the tank? Thanks!

I always ask the vendor...la keeps thiers at 1.020...1.021. So i match my qt to that so when they come in i check thier salinity quick if im off i adjust the qt. Then float and in they go.

Sorry for all the questions. New to receiving fish by mail!

If the QT is off, how long do you take to adjust the tank since the fish bag is already open? If I set me tank to 1.018 to 1.019 and the fish come in 1.020, do I adjust or just put them in for fear of ammonia poisoning in the bag?

Thanks just trying to prepare!

I just got a McCosker wrasse in. I asked the vendor, saltwaterfish.com, ahead of time what salinity they keep their tanks at and I matched it at 1.025. I got the shipment minutes after it was dropped off. The fish arrived ice cold and belly up. No time to acclimate so I just grabbed him and tossed him in the QT. He quickly sparked back to life in the 80F water. I will not purchase from them again. All there was in the box was a teeny tiny heat pack that was ice cold.

this is gonna open up a flame war...but in all my yrs of keeping saltwater fish - I NEVER acclimate anything...Just chuck 'em in my observation or Qt...I always felt that the conditions I had ready were far better than what they were in...and the sooner they got relief the better...

It is very important to cut a very small hole in the bag to test and then seal it back up with tape very quickly so the ammonia doesnt become toxic.
For this purpose only i have some extra salty water on hand if i Need to raise it and rodi if i need to lower it. And i do this while the bags arw temp acclimating.

I like to use scotch tape and and a syringe. Small piece of tape where you pierce with a blunt tip syringe. Then tape over the hole with another piece of tape. Kinda like kids do with balloons. A pack of blunt tip syringes on amazon is only like 5-10 dollars.

Any recommendations if I don’t have a syringe on hand? Delivery is coming today by 12 [emoji51]

All great questions and glad I saw this forum for I too have a shipment coming from live aquaria before 12! :)

I’ve been preparing for almost a week now and as we get closer to me receiving them I am getting anxious and a little panicky so I can give them their best chance.

After a mishap last June where I lost all of my fish after introducing some disease to the tank, I added 3 fish to a fallow DT around 3 months ago and now want to add more fish. But I will add them only after QTing them after learning from the first go around [emoji51]

TLDR: I thought I was prepared until this morning when I started panicking when it was actually happening!

No need to panic, you will be fine. Just curious where did you order from that made your others sick?

I believe it was from one of my LFS. I had a pair of clowns for a long time and when I started adding more fish (not QTing), I believe a pair of cardinals introduced something because it was just downhill from there and very quick. My guess was brook because of the thick mucus coat you could see on the clownfish

Sorry to hear that

Thank you! I was way more emotional than I thought I would be. Those clowns were my buddies!

But hopefully I’ve grown and learned not to repeat those mistakes. This is my first time quarantining.

I put sponges in my sump for almost 5 weeks for my QT HOB. Bought a 20G long, acclimation box, pvc tubing, Dr. Tim’s, etc.

Still feel extremely unprepared [emoji23]
