Flasher wrasse not looking good

hey everyone,

I would appreciate any help as to what my wrasse has going on. This morning he was fine and looking normal so I thought. When I got home today he had white or cloudy eye. Only one eye is cloudy, I fed them and he ate with the other fish who all appear to look fine. I have seen him sitting in the corner of the tank from time to time now as well. Any ideas what he may have going on?

It looks like flukes from what I can see. A 5 min FW dip should he able to confirm if flukes are present.

Definitely looks like flukes. If the fresh water dip doesn't show anything then spooking into some kind of injury is common for wrasses.

Thanks for asking but he proved to elusive to catch, I had him in the net and he jumped out before I could cover the net and he went strait into my rocks and he hasn’t come out yet(going on day 2 now). I’m not real hopeful since he hasn’t come out to eat but I haven’t been able to find his hiding place unfortunately my emerald crab might find him first. Bummer!

I’ve had the same experience with a Yellow Coriss Wrasse and it ended up passing away. Very strange how quickly it happened, just the way you described it literally like over night it got “pop-eye”. I know they are a very stress prone fish as well. Hoping for the best for you though! Maybe he will get better

If it is flukes your other fish will have them too. If you can catch any of them you can do the freshwater dip to confirm it. You'll want to get rid of them if they are in your tank

If It did have flukes I thought about dosing the tank 100g with prazipro (says its reef safe),but I was told it could melt my anemones. An one have experience with dosing with corals

One thing others haven’t mentioned, your tank is quite new based on what I see. Flasher wrasse are particular to stable water parameters.

Have you tested ammonia nitrate and nitrite?

I test once a week and parameters don’t stray much at all. Tank is about 5 months old and going through a little ugly stage with what I believe to be diatoms.

I've killed my fair share of corals but not by using prazi. They typically won't like it much and might close up some but bounce right back

Prazipro will kill feather dusters, Bristle worms, etc. I also have heard personal stories about people dosing Prazipro and anemones having a negative reaction though.
