I am a new reefer and just bought a flasher wrasse.I am currently drip acclimating it but it hasn’t moved and is laying on it’s side.

I just added the wrasse and it just sunk to the bottom and into a cave.He seems to be breathing heavy and I don’t know what to do.

Just add him to your tank. No need to drip acclimate.

How long have you had your tank? Did you cycle it?

Did you get the wrasse in the mail or from a local store?

What do you have for aeration in your tanks and can you add an extra airstone?

Did you add the wrasse to your DT or to a QT?

The tank is cycled and I’ve had it for about 2 months. I picked it up at the LFS.

In that case I would add extra aeration to your tank, dim the lights and wait and see if more knowledgable folks here have more suggestions.

I'm sure they'll ask though, if you added it to a QT or your DT. If it is sick and in your DT now all other fish are at risk so I would also be figuring out a way to get a QT tank set up for everybody, in case its needed.

Thank you so much for the advice.

40min isn't too long, but it's still possible. Flasher wrasses seem, to me, to be kind of delicate. I've tried a couple times, but haven't had any luck. They are easily stressed.

I would add a bubbler/airstone. I didn’t mean that you should pull it to QT now, but, I would be thinking now about how you’ll treat it and other fish in the tank if the wrasse doesn’t recover in the next day or so. Better to make a plan now and be able to hit the ground running if you need to.

Thank you.

Should I turn the flow off.
Keep the flow in the tank moving the water...turn the powerheads toward the surface to give more surface agitation therefore increasing the oxygenation of the water.

Most wrasses will do this or even play dead. DO NOT plop and drop. Acclimate properly.
Place in bucket and Add tank water in a cup and pour a cup in bucket every 15 minutes 6 times and catch fish in that very cup and introduce into tank

What about HW?? I think it’s been around forever and have nothing but great reviews...

This, and ammonia builds up in the shipping bag along with carbon dioxide. This mix results in a less toxic ammonia. When the bag is opened, or a bubbler put in, the ammonia becomes very toxic.

I would put the fish in my quarantine immediately. If you need to buy time, squirt some Prime in.
