Will a flasher Wrasse (eg carpenter wrasse) still flash its color if there are no females or males of similar species?

Looking to get a flasher and melanarus but if he won’t flash I will go another path.

Thanks

Mine never flashed, at any point, ever.

I’ve seen tanks with multiple flashers that did, however.

My dominant wrasse has flashed my molly Miller blenny, also I think an emerald crab last week. Mostly flashes other flasher wrasse.

I would probably add it earlier in the stocking so it's well established, I'd think it would flash other fish more that way. They are kinda jumpy in my experience, figuratively and literally.

Maybe @evolved or @eatbreakfast could give you some input

My Flasher wrasses only flashes at other males and females. The dominant fish flashes more often. Fairy Wrasses is more varible. Some of my Fairy wrasses never flash, while other Fairy flashes all the time. My Laboute, one of the two dominant fish in the tank, never really flash, while my Bluethroat Fairy Flashes all the time. My Exquisite, the smallest Fairy wrasse in my tank almost all the time show his color with all fins fully extended. I think he was trying to keep from been intimated by other larger wrasses in the tank.

If you have a reasonably large tank, get a Bluethroat Fairy. He does not intimate easy and often display against my Flame angels and other larger fishes. I do have multiple system. Picture below is my 65 gallon

Flashers will sometimes flash if they see their reflection, but, usually with other flashers or similarly colored or shaped fish

Some individuals are more prone to flash than others. I've had some flashers that rarely flashed and others that flashed all the time. The more dominant it is in the hierarchy, the better the chances it will flash.
