Flashing Tilefish - Wow!!

I ran into this video of a totally awesome-looking fish while doing casual research on tilefish. Though you guys might like to see it. I've certainly never seen such a fish before. Wish my setup could accommodate its special needs. :/ A stunner of an animal. I may have to set up a tank designed around these guys at some point.

Talk about wearing your emotions on your sleeve haha Purple Tilefish go for around 50-80$ so I'm assuming 100$ depending how easy their found.

150$+ according to some sites, $50 for blue headed and red streaked Tiles. Say most of if not all Tilefish are deeper dwelling, low light, and isolated dominate fish that would eat very small fish if given the opportunity. It would be great to just set up a decent sized nano for a pair.

I was reading that they really need tight lids, 6" deep sand beds for burrowing (and not to disturb their burrow unless absolutely necessary!) and a tank with plenty of space so that when they spook, and they will, they don't slam into something. It is also highly recommended to use dimmers on your lights and keep them in lower light conditions than your average reef. The more you can avoid startling them, the better.

I would love a pair (imagine breeding them!!) but my tank is much too shallow for the sandbed they recommend. Maybe when I get my 125, eh? n.n

They are amazing - not sure we're able to provide for them as well as we should. They seem universally short-lived in captivity.

One hint I take from them is that the "rainbow display" is a stress reaction (so I'm told) - not healthy. They're a plain-looking fish with a too-timid personality in "real life". Lol.

I've gotten these fishes before, very difficult fish to keep. They flash due to stress

I talked to Kevin Kohen (from LiveAquaria) about Flashing Tilefish after his lecture at MACNA. He said they stop flashing in captivity after a short time and remain a greyish color. He told me a purple tilefish would be a better choice.
