They generally should work but they get aggressive. I get mandarins bc they're peaceful
You could also run a flatworm exit treatment but people have issues with that often so as long as you like the mandarin and are willing to add it they make a great natural solution. They also take to ROE really easily and thats what I feed mine.
Mine solved such a big problem for me that I got her tattooed on haha
