I'm having trouble finding info on how exactly the toxins from planarian flatworms affect the bodies of fish and coral. I assume that a population of them have crashed in my tank, as I'm having trouble finding any when, just a day ago, they were everywhere. I've lost fish and coral en masse, to symptoms as follows:
Fish get a white patch of skin beneath their pectoral fins (where the heart would be?)
Coral's flesh peels off, but ONLY where direct light was hitting it. IE, acro colonies are bare on the top but still have skin on the bottom. Corals in shaded areas seem mostly unaffected, besides some visible irritation, and fish that remain in hiding seem less affected as well.
I'm curious if anyone has thoughts on this. I've been battling flatties for a while, and now that they've tanked I'm finally at least a little bit free of them. Please share your experiences!

toxins from one worm is nothing but when you kill a bunch of them the toxins released can kill corals and fish. one thing i have found that absolutely eats them is a blue velvet nudibranch. sixline wrasse are thought to fancy them too.

i recommend wet skimming , lots of water changes, syphoning them out and above all run lots of carbon and ozone if you have it. active quaranteening future corals is the best prevention
