The top of all the tips of my devils hand have been flaking and seemingly melting away. I’m not quite sure what’s causing it, too much light? Not enough flow? I recently changed lights so I’m suspecting a light issue. Can I recover it?

"Flaking" almost sounds like shedding. Shedding is normal for leathers, but will get a few peps eyes on it that know leathers really well.

@sfin52 @fishguy242 @Lost in the Sauce @F i s h y thoughts?

It doesn't look like necrosis or anything i would be to worried about. You did say that you changed lights, i am assuming there was an in crease in intensity. This may be normal shedding due to that, almost like when we get a sunburn, and our skin peels. I would monitor it. If you start to see more than flakes, like actual chunks coming off or any black discoloration that is when it may need to be trimmed and meds used.

Agreed with the above. I don't see anything concerning on the flesh.

Leathers do shed their outer tissue and need flow, to do so. Many problems shedding come from too low of flow.

My leathers never look better than when up in high flow and med-high light.

Thanks for the replies. I know that they normally shed but this happened right after a shed. This is an updated picture from today where you can see more of the weird white (flesh?) of the coral and even some brown stuff growing on it, might be diatoms or something.

moved it to a high flow area (like really high flow) to maybe help it shed and it has caused more of its polyps to come out but it seems to also be causing the white areas to grow more. These photos are three days after the first post and you can see the white spots look like they’ve grown, and they are sunken in compared to the brown areas.
