I’m just wondering how long does the blade last everybody? I only use the blade, the plastic one doesn’t work for me. I also leave the blade in the tank and wanted to know how long it lasts, before it needs to be replaced.

I’d also like to know. I’ve had mine for a little over a year. Still works great. I have the smaller one on 1/2” glass and I love it.

It all depends on how often you scrape, and how much algae build up you have, and how good the blade was in the first place. I had some blades last over a year and some go bad after a few months its hard to tell so I just keep 1 spare on hand.

I’ve noticed the same thing. My 1st blade lasted about a year. This last one it seems like it has only been 5 months. I was shocked when I replaced it and how much better it works when sharp.

I’ve used the same blade for year and a half. Most of the time, I just use the scrub pad side. If calcified areas, I use the razor side. After use, I rinse under tap water and towel dry it. Sits next to tank when not used.

So you don’t keep it in the tank?

I have the flipper and just bought some new blades had it for about 8 months and it still cleans well, it's just not as sharp. I would not leave it in the tank out of fear that leaching would occur.

So are most people not leaving this in tank at all times?

I’ve had mine for 6 months now. I too leave it in the tank as storage. Have had zero problems and it works great. Not saying that it’s not a disaster waiting to happen. But so far, no problems

After 12 months kept in the tank and used every few days, mine still seems perfect. I only use the blade side. Also the tank glass hasn’t been scratched. So I’m pretty happy with it.

+1. My experience exactly. Love it.

Changed mine in 3.5 mos as it seemed to get dull...bought new ones. Keep mine out of the tank...magnet stuck to my small man cave refrigerator next to my tank. Switched to the Triton method over Xmas holidays so had a lot more algae to clear off my glass till things settled down.

I've used a flipper max for over a year with great results. I ordered some replacement blades, and boy do they suck. My new blades are flipper brand, but I did notice the replacement blades have curved corners, while the original was a 90 degree edge. Not sure why they are different. I put the original blade back in after about 2 passes on my glass. Maybe this is a one off problem, but my replacement blades just flat out don't work.
