Need a new scraper/glass cleaner for my 12mm thick tank. I have the regular flipper now. It works ok but I'm missing the matching dry side magnet and I'm using a mag float magnet. I don't get enough downward pressure on the flipper blade.

Wondering if I should stick with the flip or try something new?

I have the regular on my 1/2 180g.. It works great but when I originally bought it I had to use the acrylic blade because my old display was acrylic. It wasn't strong enough so I used the dry side from the hammerhead mag cleaner which worked much better.

Don't know if your open to other types, but after using magfloat, and others for many years i just recently bought the tunze "long" magnet scraper to try and am in love with it. The magnet itself puts all the pressure on the two scrapers, meaning there is no flat part touching your tank wall. This eliminates the chance of sand getting caught between your tank wall and the magnet. I have tried numerous brands of magnetic cleaners and this is th first one that just passes directly through all types of algae. Look it up for sure, but i am loving mine.

I use the Mag Float Scraper on my 120gal and I love it!
The scraper blades will cut through everything and they're easily replaceable; plus the wet side floats.

I have the Tunze Nano for my small tank which does okay, but the wet side doesn't float.
And I wish the Nano had a metal blade as opposed to a plastic one.

Ya i actually got the long for the sole reason that the nano didn't have the metal blades. It doesn't float but i still haven't tried a better scraper than it. I just take mine out of the tank after each use, and store it underneath in my stand.

I use algae magnets from Algae Free, Strong, real strong and the inside magnet floats. Has detachable scraping blades and a nice oak encased outer magnet. They have been around forever.

But to answer your original question (I think) the Flipper Max is the same as the standard but wit a stronger magnet for thicker tanks.

I was thinking of getting the larger flipper...i've always had great luck with them. I just have this greenish alage on my glass that I can't remove unless I use a hand scraper. I'd like to keep my hands out of the tank.

You don't need a max, mine works fine on my 1/2". If it's not working I suggest another tool.

So I went with the flipper Max....ummm...WOW!!! This this is massive and is def overkill for this tank, but I've had this weird green algae that I couldn't scrape off with anything other than some serious elbow grease with a small blade in my hand.

The max plowed right through it...but let me tell you, it was a real workout moving that baby around the glass, some serious pull. But my tank glass has never been cleaner than it is now. I feel like I scraped a layer of glass off, lol.

Layer some paper toweling between the magnets until you get the proper thickness that allows the magnets to move smoothly.
I've done this with a mag float. Works great!

This. I do this when I need to use the flipper on the nano tank.
