Already having a 120 g tank made out of float glass for last 3 years....
The glass is full of scratches and is very disturbing....
Planning to build a fresh 220 g tank out 12 mm tempered/toughened glass to avoid the scratches will come in due course of time due to regular maintenance....

Is it advisable to use tempered glass??????

Only thing besides can’t drill it is. It doesn’t crack it just shatters if it’s hit hard enough

Problem is tempered glass shatters without warning if striked on the edge. My last tank manufacturer who builds mostly rimles and eurobraced tanks steered me away from it.

Over the years I've seen PLENTY of tanks with chip of glass missing from the edge of the tank - I always think what could have been if that glass was tempered - BOOM!

Over the years I've had plenty of tables in my apartment/house made from tempered glass - they all had/have scratches. Tempered glass didnt stop that from happening.

The plates of tuffend glass can be thinner ( not good for seal strength ) , this is why sometimes it's only the floor of the aquarium , in general redsea and waterbox are not using it , very heavy low iron float is common

I did that to a car window years ago just trying (too hard apparently) to push it down when it was stuck. lol
