float switch for RO/DI filter system

Ok so first of all when i'm setting up my new reef tank, i always go and get fresh RO/DI from my LFS though it would save me some, and i'm been dealing with lots of GHA even i try to change water every 5 days to a week. Until last week i been checking around and see some guy suggest to check my water source and i do go ahead and order TDS meter to see what is happening. The result from my bought RO/DI is around 170 and that similar to my tap water too. So i decided to get my own system and the filter water come out from that are perfect that is 0 on TDS, right now i been wonder how to use that float switch so i always have my fresh ro/di ready when im needed. Thank

Mount it 3" to 5" below the top of a heft trash can and always keep the lid on.

Like Mfreddy said, just mount it 3-5 inches below the edge of whatever container you want to use. You can also get some moisture alarms and put them on the ground next to your reservoir if you're still worried about it overfilling.

I dont know about most RO/DI's, but mine has a startup and shutdown process.
Startup:

Ensure flush valve is open
Open supply valve
flush for 1 minute
Close flush valve​

Shutdown

Open flush valve
Allow to flush for 1 minute
Close supply valve​

Personally, I was thinking of automating my RO/DI by using an arduino with a "tip" level switch, and a couple solenoid valves out of a dishwasher or similar for the valves. I'm worried the RO membrane could be damaged by shutting down the supply without allowing it to flush.

I believe spectrapure has an auto flush system that may be worth looking into. On the other hand, I have heard that it is hard on the filters to be constantly making small batches of water at a time and can eventually lead to TDS creep. You may want to get a second opinion though.

I have a 270 total water volume system. I top off about 2 gallons a day, and do a 25-30% WC about every 2 weeks. My system makes small batches due to the top off. I change my pre-filter about once a quarter along with DI resin and have consistent 0 TDS with no issues. It's been set up about 20 months.

I have a high low tank controller installed on my RODI tank. The float switches are about 25 gallons apart. When the low level is hit the system kicks on. I added a delay relay so I could bypass the DI resin for the first 2.5 minutes and run that water down the drain to remove TDS creep. I do not use a flush valve.

Tank controller that I added a delay relay to the output so a bypass relay could run a couple minutes before going thru the DI

I have a SpectraPure float switch on my RO/DI unit, with the only work being a hole drilled near the top of a bucket. Since that, I have not yet had an overflowing water problem (and it's a lot more convenient, as I just set a timer and work on the computer. When the timer goes off, I check on the bucket). Worth its weight in gold!
